Australian shepherds have at least 10 known inherited diseases that can affect them. These include common diseases such as collie eye anomaly, PRA-prcd and MDR1, as well as rarer inherited diseases such as dilated cardiomyopathy. These diseases can affect the standard, miniature and toy Australian shepherds.

Pembroke and Cardigan Welsh corgis have five inherited diseases to be concerned about including those, like exercise-induced collapse, that may prevent a dog from performing at its best.

Australian cattle dogs, including the Australian stumpy tail cattle dog, have at least six diseases that can be inherited. Two of these diseases, primary lens luxation and cystinuria, can result in an emergency veterinary visit if the owner is unaware that their dog is at risk.

Border collies are at risk of inheriting at least seven diseases including eye disorders that can cause blindness, such as PRA-prcd and collie eye anomaly. In addition, intestinal cobalamin malabsorption is becoming a concern for border collies.
